The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) is a global network of individuals
& organisations concerned with the protection, promotion & support of breastfeeding worldwide.
WABA action is based on the Innocenti Declaration, the Ten Links for Nurturing the Future and the
Global Strategy for Infant & Young Child Feeding. WABA is in consultative status with UNICEF & an NGO
in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).

Four continents Forum's participants

  • In the U.S the marketing of baby foods is around US$20 million. 
  • In the U.K. more than £267 million is spent on infant milk formula and baby food. 
  • Baby junior foods is a new market for manufacturers of artificial baby foods. 
  • France exports infant milk formula and baby foods of up to 3.4 million francs. 
  • In China, 37.1 billion yuan is spent on baby foods and this will increase to 224.7 billion yuan by the year 2000. 
  • The distribution of new products of baby foods increased in one year from seven types in 1993 to 45 different types in 1994 mostly for toddlers and sick babies - a market of over US$144 million.
