Media

Did you know?

The media has become an integral part of our daily lives and an important source of information. It has the power to promote and support breastfeeding.

WABA calls on the Media to:

  • Promote breastfeeding at the policy, community, and institutional levels in accordance with the International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes, the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, and other strategies
  • Frame breastfeeding as a norm and provide media platforms to constantly discuss breastfeeding issues, especially with experts
  • Avoid the objectification of women and sexualisation of the breast in media representations
  • Provide coverage of the impact of infant formula production and marketing, especially on vulnerable populations
  • Shape and deliver messages on evidence-based benefits of breastfeeding to change attitudes and behaviours
