Children's Health, Children's Rights:
Action
for the
21st
Century
The single most important issue
By Anwar Fazal

Anwar Fazal, WABA's Chairperson

he single most important issue at this Forum has been the human rights dimension of the breastfeeding issue. We have a cluster of rights and obligations concerning children, concerning women and concerning nature. We have a cluster of rights and obligations concerning children, concerning women, and concerning nature.

Firstly, we need a " rights" structure to prevent those who interfere with the fulfillment of sound nutrition and to deal with them.

Secondly, we need to ensure that women do not become victims but are given the supportive framework to lead a full life that includes breastfeeding. We need to engage the children's rights and women's rights movements to build together a framework that helps us move forward on the agenda.

This will be an important part of WABA's agenda for the 21st Century. Following are the viewpoints of two participants who have taken an active part in the discussion about rights this week.
