Breastfeeding Advocacy and Practice (BAP) Course

About the Course

This two-week residential course is organised by WABA and the Infant Feeding Consortium (IFC). The aim of the course is to develop participants’ knowledge and skills to support mothers and babies, and advocate for change to improve infant feeding practices. The course targets senior health and allied health professionals with an emphasis on multi-disciplinary country teams.

Since 2007, 8 BAP courses have been held with over 193 participants from 38 countries.

Objectives

  • Provide participants with knowledge on various aspects of breastfeeding and lactation management, based on the most recent evidence

  • Develop participants’ capacity to understand, advocate and implement international policy recommendations on infant and young child feeding

  • Equip participants with practical skills for working with mothers and babies in various contexts

Outcomes

  • Training is cascaded to increase the availability of skilled lactation support to mothers
  • Engagement with communities in both virtual and physical settings is increased
  • Changes are promoted especially in hospital policies and practices
